Marrakech to El Jadida via Essaouria
As our trip is winding down, we are headed toward the Atlantic coast of Morocco once again. We are going to explore and have lunch at the fishing village of Essouria and then carry on to our hotel I El Jadida
We had a reasonably early departure from our hotel this morning in Marrakech, and we’re heading straight west to the coast. Yellah! (Let’s go!)
Here are some of the sights along the way.
Argan Grove with Baby Goats
The baby goats actually have nothing to do with the argan trees, from which the famous argan oil is made. The young men with the goats are basically just looking for tips for photographs of the baby goats and/or of people holding the goats.
This argan oil is supposed to be essentially great for the skin and cosmetics. The oil comes from the seed, which you see in my hand. This particular seed needs to ripen a bit more and become hard, where it is then broken up and gives up the precious oil that is later made into the commercial version of the oil.
Along the way:
Argan Co-Op near Ounagha
The grinding and mixing of the nut into oil.
Woodworking
What’s he making?
Yellah!
Essaouira
There are many more photos of Essaouria
on the next page.
This was too long a day. We should have had a hotel in Essaouira. Although it is oceanfront, I’m not thrilled with the last hotel before Casablanca. Maybe I’ll like it better in the morning.
